Heartstring Samplery ~ Grounding Force
From Beth:
In the Spring of 2020, when the global pandemic was just getting started, an in-person retreat that I was scheduled to teach was moved to a video platform; the first virtual retreat that I was present at. As we were screen chatting at some point during the weekend, someone said, “Cross stitch is my grounding force”, meaning it was what kept her sane during the uncertainty of the times. Her comment stuck with me for days and weeks, and yes, months afterward, finally taking shape as this design. I wanted to take the seriousness of the comment and translate it into more playful imagery, so I depicted myself as the main character; a winged cherub. In this colorful scene, the needle and thread I hold in hand are my only tether to the ground, keeping me from floating away with the butterflies.
